It is the worst thing that could have happened to me today. I broke a boot lace while gearing up for my shift. Now to the untrained eye it may have just been an ordinary boot lace that broke, no big deal. But to the skilled and knowing, it was the fabric of the space time continuum with in my life. The thread that keeps good luck and bad luck in perfect balance, the string that holds my life’s fortuity in perfect harmony, broke.
Now I know what you may think, its  just a superstition. There is no way that the natural wear and tear of cloth could solely be responsible for a shift of luck. Frankly, luck is merely a generated concept to explain statistical abnormalities and random occurrences of positive/negative events to ones self. But to me, breaking a boot lace while gearing up for shift is disastrous. It’s on the level of breaking a mirror, while walking under a ladder in front of a black cat whose opening an umbrella in doors and than stepping on a crack.
Case and point, I heat up some frozen food to consume during down time. A simple task, done countless times before and never with complications. Tonight I did so and the contents were still ice cold, yet liquid which escaped the container and dripped on me burned me. Not good enough to convince you? Well a menial task of booting up the laptop was overshadowed by the fact that for no reason it would not load! Dun, Dun, Dun. Causing me to go through and restore it from the hard drive….Oh the agony! The Horror! Walking through the pouring rain, I stepped in a puddle and it got me wet…Unbelievable! If that wasn’t enough to make you believe in the mystical powers of boot lace’s than this surely will change your mind. My luck has shifted to bad thus not allowing me to have done a single BLS call. Not a nose bleed, not a general illness, not a stubbed toe, not even a fall-go-boom. I can’t handle another night of only driving to the ER!
I have seemed to gotten through this night relatively unharmed. I hope that with a new lace this misfortune will return to a balanced state and I can resume normality. I’m not sure if I can take another night with so much bad luck caused by a broken boot lace.
Be Safe, Ambulance Junkie
